Kaziranga National Park (UNESCO World Heritage Site, largest one-horned rhino population), Manas National Park (UNESCO World Heritage Site, tiger reserve, biosphere reserve — a triple UNESCO designation), Dibru-Saikhowa National Park, Nameri National Park, Orang National Park (smallest national park, one-horned rhinos), and Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary are the most important. The state animal is the one-horned rhinoceros and state bird is the White-winged Wood Duck.

Assam Forest Guards patrol forest beats in the Brahmaputra valley and hill forests, primarily preventing poaching of one-horned rhinoceros, Bengal tigers, Asian elephants, and other Schedule I species. They enforce the Wildlife Protection Act 1972 and Forest Conservation Act 1980, and specifically operate under Project Rhinoceros and Project Tiger provisions. Guards also conduct flood patrol during monsoon (Kaziranga faces major annual flooding) and assist in wildlife rescue operations. Anti-poaching duties involve night patrols and coordination with police.

Male candidates must meet a minimum height of 163 cm and chest measurement of 79-84 cm. Female candidates require a minimum height of 150 cm. A physical efficiency test is mandatory and includes running and endurance assessments. Given that Assam forests include riverine grasslands, dense jungles, and tea garden areas, candidates must be physically fit for patrolling in humid and flood-prone terrain.

Assam Forest Guards receive a monthly salary of Rs. 18,000-25,000 in the Assam government pay matrix along with applicable allowances. Remote area postings attract additional allowances. The position offers government job security, health benefits, accommodation at forest beat stations, earned leave, and NPS pension benefits. Career advancement through departmental promotions to Head Guard and Forester is possible.

The Assamese language section tests grammar, comprehension, and language ability. Study Assamese grammar including parts of speech, tense, sandhi, and sentence construction.
