Chemistry is the most scoring section in JEE Main. Physical Chemistry requires calculations, Inorganic is memorization-heavy (NCERT), and Organic is mechanism-based. Most students score 70-80% in Chemistry vs 50-60% in Physics and Mathematics.
JEE Main has 30 Chemistry questions: 20 MCQs (Section A) + 10 integer type (Section B, attempt any 5). Chemistry marks: 100 out of 300.
NCERT is essential and sufficient for Inorganic Chemistry (p-Block, d-Block, coordination compounds). For Organic, NCERT plus Himanshu Pandey or MS Chauhan is recommended. Physical Chemistry requires additional numerical practice.
Most students find Chemical Bonding (MOT, hybridization) and Coordination Compounds (isomers, naming) the toughest. Organic reaction mechanisms (especially named reactions) are also challenging.
