CMRL (Chennai Metro Rail Limited) is a joint venture PSU of the Government of India and Government of Tamil Nadu operating the Chennai Metro Rail network. It recruits for Executive Engineer, Junior Engineer, Assistant Manager, and Station Controller/Train Operator posts. Engineering posts span Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Signal & Telecommunications disciplines. CMRL is rapidly expanding Phase 2 corridors, making it an attractive employer for fresh engineers.

CMRL Executive Engineers are appointed in the E1 grade with a salary range of Rs. 30,000-60,000 per month (CTC inclusive of basic, DA, HRA, and perks). With experience, engineers progress to Assistant Manager, Deputy Manager, Manager, and Senior Manager roles with corresponding salary hikes. Civil Engineering covers structural analysis, geotechnical engineering, transportation engineering (rail and road), construction management, and concrete technology. Mechanical covers manufacturing, machine design, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and industrial engineering. Electrical covers power systems, machines, electronics, control systems, and drives. All disciplines include General Studies covering current affairs, national infrastructure projects, and metro rail policy. English tests communication and comprehension skills.

CMRL Executive Engineer exam is classified as hard difficulty and tests engineering subjects at depth, though it is slightly less rigorous than GATE in terms of mathematical derivation. The exam focuses more on application-based questions and conceptual understanding. Candidates with GATE preparation have a significant advantage. The General Studies and English sections add breadth to the assessment. Scoring above 65% typically ensures a call for the interview round.

CMRL selection involves a written CBT for shortlisting, followed by a Group Discussion and/or Personal Interview for senior posts. Technical knowledge is rigorously assessed at the interview stage. Document verification and medical fitness examination precede final appointment. CMRL follows Government of India reservation norms. The entire process from notification to appointment typically takes 6-12 months.
