CUSAT CAT is the Combined Admission Test conducted by Cochin University of Science and Technology for admissions to MSc, LLB, MBA, BTech (lateral entry), and integrated programs. It is among the primary science university entrance tests in Kerala. Different papers are available for different programs — Science aspirants typically appear for the Mathematics-Physics or Mathematics-Chemistry paper combination. CUSAT is a strong research university with excellent facilities in marine sciences, photonics, polymer science, and information technology.

The CUSAT CAT syllabus for MSc Science programs is primarily based on BSc-level content. For Mathematics-based programs, the syllabus covers Calculus, Linear Algebra, Abstract Algebra, Real Analysis, Complex Analysis, and Differential Equations. For Chemistry programs, Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Inorganic Chemistry at the BSc level are tested. For Physics, Mechanics, Optics, Electrodynamics, Quantum Mechanics, and Thermodynamics are the key areas. The exam style is direct and tests core concepts rather than research-level application.

CUSAT is a well-regarded central university and its CAT is considered a credible science entrance. It is generally considered moderately competitive, less intense than IIT JAM or TIFR but more rigorous than many state university entrances. CUSAT MSc students may be eligible for merit-based scholarships from the university, as well as national scholarships like the INSPIRE fellowship from DST for students with outstanding BSc marks. Those who additionally clear GATE (for Engineering) or CSIR NET/JRF after admission can access JRF fellowships. CUSAT CAT registration is done online through the official CUSAT admissions portal. Candidates must create an account, fill in personal and academic details, upload required documents including Class 10 and 12 certificates and BSc marksheets, select their exam paper combination, and pay the registration fee. Admit cards are issued online before the exam. Results are declared on the CUSAT website and selected candidates are called for document verification and counselling for seat allotment.
