HPCL OTs receive a training stipend of ₹50,000–₹60,000 per month. After regularisation as Officer Grade A, the CTC is approximately ₹15–₹18 LPA including basic pay (₹60,000–₹1,80,000 IDA scale), DA, HRA, and perquisites like company accommodation, LTA, and medical coverage.

HPCL recruits OTs primarily from Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Instrumentation, Electronics, Computer Science, and Information Technology engineering streams. The recruitment is stream-specific and the technical paper aligns with the candidate's chosen discipline.

HPCL OT selection has two phases: Phase I Written Test (Technical + Aptitude + GK, 200 marks, 150 minutes) and Phase II Group Discussion + Personal Interview for shortlisted candidates. Final selection is based on combined merit of Phase I and Phase II scores.

HPCL OTs work in oil refinery operations, pipeline management, retail fuel stations network, lubricants division, LPG distribution, petrochemicals, and corporate functions like HR, Finance, and Marketing. The work involves hands-on exposure to hydrocarbon processing and petroleum product distribution.

HPCL uses GATE scores for some years and conducts its own test in other years, depending on the recruitment policy at the time of notification. Candidates should check the current year's official HPCL notification carefully to determine whether GATE score or HPCL's own exam is applicable.
