CAPF Ministerial Staff includes Constable (General Duty/Ministerial) and Head Constable (Ministerial) posts across all five Central Armed Police Forces — BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, and SSB — as well as Assam Rifles and NIA. These are administrative/clerical roles responsible for office management, record keeping, correspondence drafting, data entry, and coordination within CAPF units. Constable Ministerial starts at Level 3 (Rs. 21,700) and Head Constable Ministerial at Level 4 (Rs. 25,500). Unlike GD posts, ministerial staff work in offices rather than field operations, though postings can be at border areas and forward bases.

SSC recruits CAPF Ministerial Staff through separate notifications (not the SSC GD Constable exam). The selection process includes: Computer-Based Examination (100 questions, 90 minutes), Skill Test/Typing Test (qualifying in nature), Physical Standard Test (though standards are lower than GD posts — 157 cm for male, 152 cm for female), and Medical Examination. The CBT tests GS, English, Hindi, Maths, and Computer Knowledge. The skill test assesses typing speed (35 wpm English or 30 wpm Hindi) and computer proficiency including MS Office applications.

Computer Knowledge covers: MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint — features, functions, shortcuts), Internet and Email basics, Windows Operating System fundamentals, Database basics (MS Access), Introduction to Computer Hardware, Networking basics (LAN, WAN, Internet protocols), Computer Security basics, and e-governance concepts. Excel functions like SUM, AVERAGE, VLOOKUP, and basic formulas are commonly tested. Candidates should be proficient in practical computer use as the skill test may include hands-on tasks in MS Office applications.

Physical standards for CAPF Ministerial Staff are lower than GD posts: Male candidates need minimum 157 cm height (compared to 165 cm for GD), and female candidates need 152 cm. Chest and weight requirements are proportionate and less stringent. Physical Efficiency Test for ministerial posts may include basic fitness tests but without the intensive running events required for GD posts. This makes CAPF Ministerial posts accessible to candidates who may not meet the higher physical standards of GD recruitment, while still requiring reasonable fitness for government service.

CAPF Ministerial Staff occupy a separate cadre from GD (General Duty) posts and cannot be transferred to GD duties. Career progression is within the ministerial cadre: Constable to HC to ASI to SI to Inspector, all in ministerial roles. However, ministerial staff can appear for UPSC CAPF AC exam if they meet age criteria, potentially transitioning to officer rank. Departmental promotion exams for HC to ASI and beyond are available. Senior ministerial officials at Inspector and Commandant (Ministerial) level handle significant administrative responsibilities at CAPF headquarters and record offices.
