Common Myths About NEET 2026 Syllabus
MYTH
NEET 2026 syllabus is reduced
FACT
As of the latest NTA notification, the NEET 2026 syllabus remains unchanged. It covers Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany + Zoology) from Class 11 and 12 NCERT curriculum. Always check neet.nta.nic.in for official updates.
MYTH
NCERT is not sufficient for NEET — you need reference books
FACT
For NEET Biology (Botany + Zoology), NCERT alone covers 90–95% of questions. For Chemistry, NCERT covers ~75% of questions. Reference books are supplementary — NCERT must be read thoroughly first.
MYTH
You must complete 100% of the syllabus to score 600+
FACT
Top NEET scorers prioritise high-weightage chapters first. Biology (360 marks) is the key differentiator — master Genetics, Molecular Biology, Human Physiology, Cell Biology from NCERT to score 320+ in Biology alone.
MYTH
NEET Biology and JEE Biology syllabus are the same
FACT
NEET tests Biology at a greater depth and breadth than most entrance exams. NEET Biology covers 38 chapters (19 Botany + 19 Zoology), each examined in detail from NCERT Class 11 and 12 textbooks.
Frequently Asked Questions — NEET 2026 Syllabus
Is the NEET 2026 syllabus same as 2025?▾
Yes — as of the latest NTA notification, the NEET 2026 syllabus is the same as 2025. It covers Physics (19 chapters), Chemistry (28 chapters), Botany (19 chapters), and Zoology (19 chapters) from Class 11 and 12 NCERT curriculum. Always check neet.nta.nic.in for any official updates.
How many chapters are in NEET 2026?▾
NEET 2026 has 85 chapters total: 19 in Physics, 28 in Chemistry, 19 in Botany, and 19 in Zoology. Each subject carries 180 marks (45 questions × 4 marks each), with –1 negative marking per wrong answer. Total: 720 marks, 180 questions, 200 minutes.
Which subject is most scoring in NEET?▾
Biology (Botany + Zoology combined) is the most scoring section — 90 questions worth 360 marks. Since Biology questions are largely direct NCERT recall, students who read NCERT Biology thoroughly typically score 300+ in Biology alone. This is the key differentiator between MBBS and BDS cutoffs.
Can I skip any chapters in NEET 2026?▾
Avoid skipping chapters completely. If pressed for time, de-prioritise chapters with 0–1 average questions per paper. Never skip: Genetics (6Q), Molecular Basis of Inheritance (5Q), Human Reproduction (3Q), Photosynthesis (3Q), Optics (4Q), Atoms & Nuclei (4Q), Chemical Bonding (3Q), Thermodynamics (3Q). These chapters together account for 30+ questions.
What is the NEET Biology strategy for 2026?▾
NEET Biology is 90 questions (360 marks). Strategy: (1) Read NCERT Biology Class 11 & 12 at least 3 times each. (2) Memorise all diagrams, tables, and specific facts.
