KVS TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher) is a recruitment exam conducted by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan to select teachers for Classes VI–X across 1200+ Kendriya Vidyalayas spread across India and abroad, including embassy schools. The exam tests subject knowledge, teaching methodology, general studies, and language proficiency. Selected teachers enjoy a good pay scale, residential quarters in many KVs, and stable central government employment. KVS is under the Ministry of Education and is one of the most sought-after teaching jobs in India.

The KVS TGT exam consists of 150 multiple-choice questions to be answered in 180 minutes. There is no negative marking, so candidates should attempt all questions. The paper is divided into four sections: Teaching Methodology (40 marks), Subject-specific Knowledge (80 marks), General Studies & Current Affairs (20 marks), and Hindi/English language (10 marks). The difficulty level is hard, as the subject knowledge section is highly conceptual and requires graduate-level mastery of the chosen discipline.

Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in the relevant subject with at least 50% marks, along with a B.Ed (Bachelor of Education) degree from a recognised university. The upper age limit is generally 35 years, with relaxations for SC/ST (5 years), OBC (3 years), and PwD (10 years) candidates. CTET Paper-II qualification is mandatory for most subject posts. Freshers with a recent B.Ed and a strong subject background can apply directly.

CTET is an eligibility test and does not itself lead to appointment; KVS TGT is the actual recruitment exam for Kendriya Vidyalaya posts. Unlike state government teacher exams, KVS is a central government exam with pan-India postings including foreign postings. The pay scale, perks such as HRA, transport allowance, and access to KV educational facilities for children make KVS TGT one of the most attractive teaching recruitment exams in the country.

Start your preparation by mastering the NCERT textbooks for your subject up to Class XII, as most questions are rooted in school-level concepts. Devote equal time to Teaching Methodology (CDP and pedagogy), which many candidates underestimate. Practise previous year papers and full-length mock tests regularly to build exam temperament. For General Studies, cover current affairs from the last 6 months, Indian polity, history, and science. Revise Hindi or English grammar rules thoroughly since language errors are common pitfalls.
