NVS TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher) is the recruitment exam for teachers at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs), which are fully residential schools providing free quality education to meritorious rural students. The Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti runs over 660 residential schools across India, each catering to a district, selecting students through the JNVST entrance exam. NVS teachers live on campus and play a critical role beyond academics—mentoring students, overseeing hostels, and nurturing talent among India's rural youth who often come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

NVS TGT consists of 100 multiple-choice questions in 120 minutes with no negative marking. The paper covers Subject Knowledge (60 questions), Teaching Methodology & Pedagogy (20 questions), and General Studies including awareness, reasoning, and current affairs (20 questions). The subject section tests candidates at graduate and school curriculum level, making conceptual clarity essential. The overall difficulty is hard, and aspirants must score well across all sections for final merit consideration.

Candidates need a Bachelor's degree in the relevant subject with at least 50% marks, a B.Ed degree, and must have cleared CTET Paper-II. The age limit is generally 35 years (relaxable for SC/ST and OBC as per government norms). Given the residential nature of JNVs, candidates who are willing to serve in semi-urban or rural districts across India have better placement prospects. Strong communication skills and a genuine interest in holistic student development are important soft criteria.

While both are central government school systems under the Ministry of Education, KVS schools are typically located in cities near central government offices, while NVS schools (JNVs) are in rural and semi-urban areas, one per district. NVS teachers are required to stay in residential campus quarters and are involved in both academic and extracurricular activities round-the-clock. The sense of social impact is greater in NVS since students are first-generation school-goers in many cases, and the free residential schooling model changes lives significantly.

NCERT textbooks from Class VI to XII remain the strongest preparation base for the subject paper. For teaching methodology, study books on CDP (Child Development and Pedagogy) used for CTET preparation. Practise last 5 years of NVS TGT question papers and take regular mock tests to improve time management.
