BHMS (Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery) is a 5.5-year professional degree including 1 year of compulsory internship. The curriculum covers Homeopathic Philosophy and Organon of Medicine, Materia Medica (over 3,000 homeopathic remedies), Repertory (Kent, Boericke), Homeopathic Pharmacy, Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Community Medicine. Graduates are registered with the Central Council of Homeopathy (CCH) or respective State Homeopathic Council and can practice independently.

BHMS graduates can practice as homeopathic physicians in private clinics, homeopathic hospitals, nursing homes, and wellness centers. Government employment is available through AYUSH dispensaries (National AYUSH Mission), ESIC (Homeopathic OPDs), and state-level AYUSH health departments. Teaching positions in homeopathic medical colleges are available for those with MD Homeopathy. International practice is possible in countries where homeopathy is legally recognized, including Germany, UK, Brazil, and several European nations. Many BHMS graduates also work in homeopathic pharmaceutical companies in quality control, product development, and marketing.

BHMS admissions follow the All India Quota (AIQ) and State Quota. For AIQ, NEET score is used by the Central Counseling Committee of AYUSH. For State Quota (85%), most states either use NEET scores directly through their state AYUSH counseling or conduct state-level homeopathy entrance tests. States like Maharashtra (MHT CET AYUSH), Gujarat (GUJCET for AYUSH), and Rajasthan have their own processes. Some private deemed universities conduct their own entrance tests for BHMS. The total number of BHMS seats across India (government + private) is approximately 12,000-14,000.

MD Homeopathy is a 3-year postgraduate program in specializations like Homeopathic Philosophy, Organon of Medicine & Homeopathic Philosophy, Materia Medica, Repertory, Practice of Medicine, Psychiatry, Pediatrics, and Obstetrics & Gynecology. Admission to MD Homeopathy programs is through AIAPGET (All India AYUSH PG Entrance Test) conducted by NTA. MD Homeopathy holders can become lecturers/professors in homeopathic medical colleges, practice as specialists, or work in homeopathic research institutions like the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH).

However, the level of legal recognition and integration into national healthcare systems varies significantly.
