LDCs are the backbone of CISF's administrative machinery, ensuring that the extensive paperwork required for a 1.5 lakh-strong force is accurately maintained. Starting pay is Level 2 (Rs. 19,900) with regular increments and promotion to UDC (Upper Division Clerk, Level 4) over time.

CISF LDC posts are typically filled through SSC CHSL (Staff Selection Commission Combined Higher Secondary Level) examination, which recruits clerks for multiple central government organizations simultaneously. Alternatively, CISF may conduct direct recruitment for LDC posts. In SSC CHSL, candidates appear for Tier I (Computer-Based Test), Tier II (descriptive paper), and Tier III (Skill Test/Typing Test). The typing test requires 35 wpm in English (or 30 wpm in Hindi) as a qualifying criterion. SSC CHSL selects candidates for CISF LDC along with LDC/JSA posts in other ministries and departments.
