HPCET (Himachal Pradesh Common Entrance Test) is conducted by Himachal Pradesh Technical University (HIMTU) for admission to BTech and other technical programmes in HP government and private engineering colleges. HIMTU, established in Hamirpur, is the affiliating technical university for all engineering colleges in the state. HPCET score is the primary admission criterion for most Himachal Pradesh engineering colleges, supplemented by Class 12 marks in some institutions.

Yes, HPCET has strong reservations for Himachal Pradesh domicile students. Government engineering colleges in HP reserve 85–90% of seats for HP domicile candidates, with only a small percentage open to all-India applicants. Categories with reservations include SC, ST, OBC, and EWS as per HP state reservation policy. Students from other states can only apply for the limited non-domicile quota seats in private colleges. Domicile certificate must be obtained from the HP district administration.

Engineering graduates from HP colleges have diverse career pathways.
