IBPS Specialist Officer IT Officer Scale-1 (Prelims + Mains)

IBPS SO IT Officer Scale-1 is a two-stage exam. The Prelims consists of three sections: Reasoning (50Q, 40 marks, 40 min), English Language (50Q, 25 marks, 30 min), and Quantitative Aptitude (50Q, 50 marks, 40 min) — total 150 questions in 120 minutes. Candidates shortlisted from Prelims appear for the Mains, which is a professional knowledge test of 60 questions (60 marks) to be answered in 45 minutes. Both Prelims and Mains carry negative marking of 0.25 marks per wrong answer. The Mains professional knowledge paper determines the final merit for bank IT officer postings.

IBPS SO IT Officer Scale-1 is recruited at a starting basic pay of Rs. 36,000 per month (under the 11th Bipartite Settlement), with total CTC including allowances (DA, HRA, special pay, medical) exceeding Rs. 50,000–60,000 per month depending on the city of posting. Officers enjoy structured career progression through Scale-2 (Senior Manager IT) and Scale-3 (Chief Manager IT) with regular promotions based on performance. IBPS SO IT Officer is a common recruitment exercise for IT officer positions across multiple Public Sector Banks (like PNB, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, Union Bank, etc.), while SBI IT Officer is SBI-specific with a separate exam and selection process. SBI's exam pattern and pay structure are slightly different — SBI IT Officer has a higher starting pay and a three-stage selection (Prelims + Mains + Interview), while IBPS SO typically uses a two-stage CBT without a separate interview for Scale-1. Candidates often appear for both to maximise their chances of securing a banking IT career.

IBPS SO scores are valid for the current CRP (Common Recruitment Process) cycle only and are used for provisional allotment to participating banks. Candidates who are shortlisted receive provisional allotment based on their Mains score and the vacancies of their preferred banks. There is no carry-forward of scores to the next year's CRP cycle; candidates must re-appear if not selected in the current round. After provisional allotment, banks conduct their own joining formalities and pre-joining medical examinations before confirming appointment.
