An Amin in Jharkhand is a revenue field officer responsible for land survey, measurement, and maintenance of land records including Khatiyan (record of rights), field maps, and mutation registers. They conduct field surveys to demarcate boundaries, measure plots, and verify ownership for revenue purposes. Amins assist in partition of land holdings, preparation of estate maps, and natural calamity damage surveys. Given Jharkhand's significant tribal (Scheduled Tribe) land holdings, Amins must be familiar with Chhotanagpur Tenancy Act provisions protecting tribal land rights.

The Chhotanagpur Tenancy Act (CNT Act) 1908 is a landmark legislation protecting tribal land rights in Jharkhand. It restricts transfer of tribal land to non-tribals in scheduled areas and provides for restoration of illegally transferred land. The Santhal Parganas Tenancy Act (SPT Act) 1949 provides similar protection in Santhal Parganas region. Amins must know these Acts thoroughly as they directly affect mutation approvals, property transfers, and land record maintenance in tribal areas. The Acts also define raiyat (tenant) rights and limitations on land alienation.

A Jharkhand Amin receives a basic pay in the pay scale with Grade Pay of Rs. 1,900–2,400, with gross monthly salary of approximately Rs. 18,000–24,000 including DA, HRA, and field allowance. Field duty allowance for land surveys and remote area allowances are additional benefits. The in-hand salary is approximately Rs. 15,000–21,000 per month. Promotion to Revenue Inspector and Sub-Inspector of Revenue is possible through departmental examinations and seniority within the Jharkhand revenue service.

Jharkhand maintains land records through the Jharbhoomi portal — a digital land records management system under DILRMP (Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme). Records include Khatiyan (Jharkhand's name for record of rights), field maps, and mutation orders. Traditional records include village-level Khata register and plot-level Khasra. Jharkhand has significant areas under Schedule V (tribal areas) where CNT and SPT Acts impose restrictions on land transfers. Amins update these records in the field and submit to Anchaladhikari (revenue officer) for official entries.

The Jharkhand Amin exam conducted by JSSC has 100 objective-type questions to be answered in 90 minutes for 100 marks. The exam covers General Studies (Jharkhand focus, India focus, current affairs), Hindi language, Revenue Procedures and Land Laws (CNT Act, SPT Act, Jharkhand Land Revenue Act, Bihar Land Reforms Act applicable to Jharkhand), and Mathematics (arithmetic, mensuration, land calculations). There is no interview or physical test. Final selection is based on written exam merit followed by document verification for the designated vacancies.
