JCECE (Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination) is conducted by JCECEB for admission to BTech, BPharm, BSc Agriculture, and other professional programmes in Jharkhand government and private colleges. Students who have passed or are appearing in Class 12 with PCM from any recognised board, with minimum 45% marks, and who are Jharkhand domicile or have studied in Jharkhand educational institutions for a minimum period, are eligible to appear for JCECE Engineering.

JCECE covers engineering admissions to colleges affiliated to BIT Mesra Ranchi (one of the most respected technical institutions in Jharkhand), Jharkhand University of Technology, and various private engineering colleges across Ranchi, Dhanbad, Jamshedpur, and other cities. BIT Mesra is the flagship institution, and competition for its seats is intense. Total engineering seats through JCECE are approximately 15,000–20,000 across all participating institutions.

JCECE Engineering consists of 100 multiple-choice questions equally distributed among Physics (33–34), Chemistry (33), and Mathematics (33–34). The marking scheme is +4 for correct and -1 for wrong answers, totalling 400 marks. The exam is conducted in offline mode with a 2-hour time limit. Given the +4/-1 scheme, strategic guessing is risky; only attempt questions with reasonable confidence. The difficulty level is moderate, comparable to other state engineering exams.

BIT Mesra (Birla Institute of Technology Mesra, Ranchi) is a deemed university with its own admission process. It conducts admissions through JEE Main ranks and its own merit process for most BTech branches. Some specific programmes and state quota seats may use JCECE. BIT Mesra is highly ranked among private technical universities in India and has strong placement records in IT, VLSI, and core engineering. Students targeting BIT Mesra should primarily prepare for JEE Main while also appearing for JCECE for state government college options.

Jharkhand is India's leading mineral-rich state, with abundant coal, iron ore, and mineral resources powering major industries. Engineering graduates from Jharkhand can access excellent opportunities in SAIL (Tata Steel Jamshedpur, IISCO Steel Burnpur), COAL India and its subsidiaries (BCCL, CCL), MECON Limited, NMDC, ONGC, and NTPC Patratu. Tata Steel Jamshedpur is one of the world's largest integrated steel plants and recruits heavily from Jharkhand's engineering colleges for Metallurgical, Mechanical, and Electrical branches.
