Rashtriya Military Schools (formerly known as King George's Royal Indian Military Schools) are a group of five prestigious residential military schools in India: RMS Ajmer (Rajasthan), RMS Belgaum (Karnataka), RMS Bengaluru (Karnataka), RMS Chail (Himachal Pradesh), and RMS Dholpur (Rajasthan). They are administered by the Ministry of Defence and the Rashtriya Military Schools Society. These schools provide quality education to boys while preparing them for future roles in the armed forces through a disciplined military environment.

Both are residential military schools but differ in administration and admissions: Sainik Schools are affiliated with Sainik Schools Society under MoD and admit both boys and girls (since 2021), while Rashtriya Military Schools admit boys only. RMS have a stronger defence quota (67% for defence wards vs 67% in Sainik Schools too but with different compositions). RMS have a longer heritage — established during British rule — and are considered slightly more prestigious with stricter military discipline. Both pipelines produce a high proportion of NDA and Armed Forces officers.

The RMS Common Entrance Test for Class 6 entry consists of 150 objective questions (OMR-based) to be answered in 150 minutes, carrying 400 marks. Sections include Mathematics, English, General Science, General Knowledge, and Intelligence Test. The paper is set at Class 5 curriculum level. There is no negative marking. Candidates who qualify the written test are called for medical examination and an interview. Final admission is based on merit in the written test.

RMS fees are heavily subsidised for wards of defence personnel, with the government bearing a significant portion. Tuition, accommodation, food, and uniform are included in the fees. The annual fee for wards of defence personnel is approximately Rs 60,000–80,000 (subject to revision), which is significantly lower than comparable private residential schools. Scholarships are also available for outstanding students and those from economically weaker backgrounds. Post-matriculation scholarships can cover Class 11–12 fees.

Historically, Rashtriya Military Schools have a strong track record of producing armed forces officers. Approximately 40–50% of RMS alumni apply to the National Defence Academy (NDA) after Class 12, with a significantly higher selection rate than the national average due to their military training and disciplined academic preparation. Prominent RMS alumni have risen to become Chiefs of Army Staff and decorated military officers. Even students who do not join the armed forces benefit from the discipline, leadership skills, and academic rigour of RMS education.
