Railway Recruitment Board Nurse Grade 2 Recruitment Exam

Candidates must hold a B.Sc. Nursing degree from a recognised university or a General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) diploma from a recognised institution. They must also be registered with the State Nursing Council or Indian Nursing Council. Age limit is typically 18–42 years with relaxation for reserved categories. Experience in clinical nursing is preferred but not mandatory for entry-level positions.

RRB Nurse Grade 2 is placed in 7th CPC Pay Matrix Level 7, with a basic pay of ₹44,900 per month. Including Nursing Allowance, HRA, DA, and other benefits, the gross salary can range from ₹55,000 to ₹70,000 per month. Railway nurses also get free medical treatment, subsidised quarters, and railway travel passes. Promotion to Senior Nursing Superintendent is available over time.

The CBT consists of 150 questions in 150 minutes covering professional nursing knowledge (anatomy, physiology, medical-surgical nursing, paediatrics, obstetrics, community health), General Science, Reasoning, and Current Affairs. Professional nursing knowledge forms the major portion (around 100 questions). Candidates should focus on their nursing syllabus along with standard GK and reasoning preparation.

Railway Nurses are required to meet the C1 medical standard. Under C1, distant vision must be 6/12 in the better eye and 6/18 in the other eye (with or without glasses). Colour vision is not tested as strictly as for operational posts. The medical examination is less stringent than A1 but still requires general good health and absence of any chronic illness that could hinder nursing duties.

Selected nurses are posted at Railway Hospitals, Health Units, and Railway Polyclinics spread across India under various railway zones. Major railway hospitals are located in Mumbai (Central Railway), Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Secunderabad, and other divisional headquarters. Posting preferences can be submitted but are subject to vacancy and administrative requirements. Transfers between zones are possible but typically limited.
