Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) and Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) are premier ISRO centres in Thiruvananthapuram that develop launch vehicle technologies, propulsion systems, and space science payloads. VSSC is responsible for developing solid propulsion, launch vehicle structures, avionics, propulsion systems, and space science instruments for ISRO's launch vehicles including PSLV, GSLV, and the next-generation LVM3. Research Scientists in Physics work on vibration and acoustic testing, thermal analysis, materials characterization, and sensor development. Chemistry Research Scientists work on solid propellant formulations, combustion chemistry, materials testing, and hazardous materials handling for propulsion applications.

Both BARC and VSSC/ISRO offer prestigious government science careers, but with different orientations. BARC focuses on nuclear energy, fundamental physics research, and atomic energy applications, while VSSC/ISRO is focused on space technology, launch vehicles, and satellite sciences.
