How should I start preparing for this GATE paper?

Begin with the official syllabus — GATE questions rarely go outside it. Then work subject-wise with previous year questions (10+ years), and finish with 8-10 full-length CBT mocks. Remember: This paper has no separate Engineering Mathematics section — General Aptitude is 15 marks and the core subject carries the remaining 85.

Expert Preparation Tips

History of Architecture and Theory are conceptual — read regularly rather than cramming at end

Building Construction Technology (materials, structures, services) is calculation-light and practice-based

Urban Planning topics (land use, density, zoning) are scoring — solve previous year papers thoroughly

GATE AR has unique question types involving visual/spatial reasoning — practice with past papers carefully

Practise the drawing-free numerical side (structures, building services, estimates) — it is where ranks are separated

For the design-oriented theory sections, study case studies of canonical buildings; direct attribution questions recur
