The Atomic Energy Education Society (AEES) is an autonomous body under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India. It manages 20 residential schools across the country located in the townships of nuclear research centres and atomic power stations such as Trombay (Mumbai), Tarapur, Kalpakkam, Rawatbhata, Narora, Kaiga, and Hyderabad. These schools offer Classes I to XII with excellent facilities including well-equipped science labs, libraries, and sports grounds. The student community includes children of BARC, NPCIL, and other DAE scientists and employees.

Both AEES PGT and TGT written exams consist of 100 multiple-choice questions to be answered in 120 minutes with no negative marking. The paper is divided into Subject Knowledge (60%), Teaching Methodology (25%), and General Studies (15%). For PGT, the subject knowledge section tests postgraduate-level concepts, whereas TGT tests graduate-level subject mastery. After the written test, shortlisted candidates appear for a skill test (demonstration lesson) and interview, which carry additional weightage in the final merit list.

AEES teachers receive central government-equivalent pay scales plus additional benefits such as residential accommodation in well-planned DAE townships, access to DAE hospitals and medical facilities, subsidised canteen and transportation, and a safe, intellectually stimulating campus environment. The student-teacher ratio is small, leading to a better teaching experience. AEES townships are self-sufficient communities where teachers and students from scientific families coexist, creating a unique academic atmosphere distinct from regular government schools.

AEES is considered moderately competitive compared to KVS or NVS, but the relatively fewer vacancies (since only 20 schools operate) make each cycle highly competitive. Thousands of candidates apply for single-digit vacancies in many subjects. The skill test (demo lesson) is a critical component that many candidates miss preparing for. A well-structured lesson plan, clear communication, and subject confidence during the demo lesson can significantly improve overall selection chances. Merit is calculated combining written test, skill test, and interview scores.

AEES typically recruits for core academic subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Computer Science, English, Hindi, Social Science, and Physical Education. Science and Mathematics vacancies are more frequent given the STEM-focused environment of DAE townships and the expectations of a scientifically inclined parent community.
