BEL ET receives a stipend of ₹40,000–₹50,000 per month during the one-year training period. After confirmation as Engineer, the CTC is approximately ₹9–₹12 LPA in E-I pay scale (₹40,000–₹1,40,000 IDA) plus perquisites including accommodation facilities at BEL plants.

BEL primarily recruits from Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE), Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE), and Computer Science Engineering (CS/IT). Occasionally, Mechanical Engineering candidates are also recruited for production and manufacturing roles.

BEL is a Navratna defence PSU manufacturing radar systems, military communication equipment, electronic warfare systems, sonar systems, and homeland security equipment. Engineer Trainees work on design, development, testing, and production of these defence electronics systems.

BEL ET written test consists of Technical questions (80–100 marks) from core engineering subjects and aptitude/GK/English (20–40 marks). The technical section covers subject-specific topics relevant to the candidate's engineering discipline. There is typically no interview or GD for ET posts.

BEL has manufacturing plants in Bengaluru (HQ), Ghaziabad, Panchkula, Pune, Chennai, Kotdwara, Navi Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Machilipatnam. Trainees may be posted at any plant depending on vacancy. The Bengaluru and Ghaziabad units are the largest and most preferred.
