Tripura JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) is conducted by the Tripura Board of Joint Entrance Examination (TBJEE) for admission to BTech, B.Pharm, and other technical programmes in Tripura. The primary institutions covered include Tripura Institute of Technology (TIT), National Institute of Technology Agartala (NIT Agartala uses JEE Main, but state quota may use Tripura JEE for certain seats), and other government and private engineering colleges affiliated to Tripura University or MAKAUT.

Tripura JEE consists of 90 multiple-choice questions: 30 each from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The marking scheme is +4 for correct and -1 for wrong answers, totalling 360 marks. The exam is conducted in offline mode in 120 minutes, giving approximately 1.33 minutes per question. This +4/-1 scheme rewards thoroughness and penalises reckless guessing, so accuracy is important. Questions are based on Class 11 and 12 syllabus aligned with the Tripura Board and CBSE curriculum.

Tripura has a limited number of engineering seats compared to larger states, with approximately 2,000–4,000 seats across government and private engineering colleges. The most prestigious accessible institution is Tripura Institute of Technology in Narsingarh. NIT Agartala, one of the better-ranked NITs in Northeast India, uses JEE Main scores for admissions (not Tripura JEE), but it remains the aspiration for many Tripura engineering aspirants as a quality institution in the state.

NIT Agartala is a centrally funded institution and conducts admissions through JEE Main, not Tripura JEE. However, Tripura domicile students can benefit from the home-state NIT quota in JEE Main counselling (JoSAA), which provides a slight advantage in NIT Agartala seat allocation. Students seriously targeting NIT Agartala should prepare for JEE Main, not just Tripura JEE. Tripura JEE remains relevant for state government engineering college admissions.

Engineering graduates from Tripura can access opportunities in both the government and private sectors. State government employment through TREDA (Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency), Power Department, and Public Works Department is a common pathway. Central PSUs like ONGC, NHPC, and BSNL recruit engineering graduates from Northeast India. Many graduates also migrate to major IT hubs like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune, leveraging the quality technical education from NIT Agartala and TIT for placement in national companies.
