HPPSC Allied Services Prelims has 150 objective questions in 150 minutes: General Studies (100Q) and General English (50Q) with -0.33 negative marking. Mains has 5 papers including Essay, GS I, GS II, Optional I, Optional II, and General English. Total Mains carries 1,000 marks and Interview carries 150 marks.

HPPSC Allied Services fills Group A and B posts including Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), District Food and Supplies Controller, District Social Welfare Officer, Superintendent of Taxes, Transport Officer, District Horticulture Officer, and various other allied civil services posts in HP government.

HP Allied Services optional subjects include History, Political Science, Public Administration, Economics, Geography, Sociology, Psychology, Hindi Literature, Sanskrit, and Law. Geography and Public Administration are popular choices as they have significant overlap with General Studies content and UP/UPSC standard books are readily available.

HP Allied Services Group A posts are in Pay Level 10-12 (Rs. 56,100-1,12,400 basic) and Group B posts are in Pay Level 8-9 (Rs. 47,600-91,300 basic) under 7th Pay Commission. With HP Hill Allowance, DA, and HRA, total salary ranges from Rs. 80,000 to Rs. 1,60,000 per month.

HPAS (conducted by HPPSC) fills Deputy Commissioner, SDM, and higher IAS-equivalent posts and has a more extensive examination. HP Allied Services fills slightly lower level but gazetted Group A/B positions. Both require HP domicile. HPAS has more vacancies but also more competition. Both share a similar syllabus structure.
