MECON Limited is a multi-disciplinary engineering and consultancy company working primarily in the steel, minerals, oil & gas, and infrastructure sectors. Graduate Trainees join as consultancy engineers working on projects such as steel plant design, blast furnace engineering, material handling systems, coke oven batteries, environmental engineering for industrial plants, and infrastructure projects for PSU clients. MECON Graduate Trainees are placed in the E1 Grade with a starting basic pay of approximately Rs. 40,000 per month. Yes, MECON requires Graduate Trainees to execute a service bond of two years. The bond amount is approximately Rs. 1 lakh and is recoverable if the candidate leaves before completing the bond period. Since MECON is a consultancy company, trainees are often deputed to project sites for extended periods. The work requires flexibility in location and the ability to adapt to diverse client environments ranging from office-based design work to field-based site supervision.

For Metallurgy discipline, important topics include Ironmaking (blast furnace, DRI/EAF), Steelmaking (BOF, EAF, secondary metallurgy), Casting and Rolling, Heat Treatment, Corrosion Engineering, and Refractory Technology. MECON-specific areas include material handling in steel plants, waste heat recovery, and emission control in integrated steel plants. Candidates should also be familiar with project management basics (WBS, Gantt charts, cost estimation) as MECON is a PMC organisation.

MECON Graduate Trainees start at E1 and progress to E2, E3 (Senior Engineer), E4 (Deputy Manager), E5 (Manager), E6 (Senior Manager), and E7 (AGM/DGM). Senior MECON engineers lead large consultancy projects independently and can be deputed to international projects in Africa, South-East Asia, and the Middle East.
