HPCET (Himachal Pradesh Common Entrance Test) is conducted by Himachal Pradesh Technical University (HIMTU) for admission to BTech and other technical programmes in HP government and private engineering colleges. HIMTU, established in Hamirpur, is the affiliating technical university for all engineering colleges in the state. HPCET score is the primary admission criterion for most Himachal Pradesh engineering colleges, supplemented by Class 12 marks in some institutions.

How many engineering seats are available in Himachal Pradesh through HPCET?

HPCET covers approximately 10,000+ engineering seats across 30+ engineering colleges in Himachal Pradesh, including government colleges in Hamirpur, Rampur, Solan, and Dharamshala, as well as several private engineering colleges in the state. Himachal Pradesh being a hill state has relatively fewer engineering colleges compared to plains states, but the quality of government colleges is reasonable. NIT Hamirpur (one of the NITs with a scenic campus) uses JEE Main scores, not HPCET.

What is the difficulty level of HPCET compared to JEE Main?

HPCET is significantly easier than JEE Main and is considered moderate in difficulty. Practise completing 100 questions in 90 minutes (54 seconds per question) to build the required exam pace without rushing.
