The UP Medical Service Commission (UPMSC) is the apex body responsible for recruitment to various medical and paramedical positions in Uttar Pradesh state government hospitals and health centers. For Staff Nurse positions, UPMSC conducts recruitment to fill vacancies in district hospitals, combined hospitals, women hospitals, and CHCs across all 75 districts of UP. These are permanent government posts with full service benefits including DA, HRA, PF, and pension under the new pension scheme.

The UP Staff Nurse Rajya exam consists of 100 MCQs in 90 minutes covering three sections: Nursing Science (fundamental nursing, medical-surgical nursing, pediatric nursing, obstetric nursing, community health nursing, mental health nursing), General Studies (current affairs, GK, basic science), and Hindi (grammar and comprehension). Nursing Science carries the maximum weightage and demands thorough knowledge of clinical procedures, drug calculations, anatomy, and physiology.

Both B.Sc. Nursing (4-year degree) and GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery, 3.5-year diploma) are eligible qualifications for UP Staff Nurse recruitment. However, B.Sc. Nursing holders are generally considered better prepared for the nursing science portion due to deeper academic training. For salary and promotional purposes, B.Sc. Nursing holders may have an advantage in some departments. Both must be registered with the UP State Nursing Council before applying.

UP Rajya Government Staff Nurses are placed in Pay Level 7 (approximately ₹44,900–₹1,42,400) under the 7th Pay Commission pay matrix. With DA, HRA, and other allowances, the total in-hand salary typically ranges from ₹50,000 to ₹65,000 per month depending on posting location. Government staff nurses also receive medical facilities, leave benefits, and pension under NPS. These positions are significantly better compensated compared to contractual NHM postings.

The Hindi section in UP Staff Nurse exam tests language comprehension, grammar rules, fill-in-the-blanks, and sometimes passage-based questions. Candidates should focus on Hindi vyakaran (grammar) topics including sandhi, samas, muhavare, ras, alankar, and tense (kaal). Reading Hindi newspapers daily and practicing previous year question papers for Hindi sections of similar UP government exams (like UPSSSC) will help. The Hindi section, while not heavily weighted, can make a difference in close merit list competition.
