Documents Required for JEE Main Registration 2026

Have all documents ready before starting the online form. Scanning documents beforehand prevents timeout issues during form filling.

Recent passport-size photograph (white background, no glasses)
Scanned signature in black ink
Class 10 marksheet (for DOB verification)
Class 12 marksheet (if passed) or admit card (if appearing in 2026)
Category certificate for SC/ST/OBC (issued by state government)
PwD certificate (if applicable)
Aadhaar card or any valid government photo ID
Category Certificate: SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS candidates must have a valid caste certificate issued by the competent authority. OBC-NCL certificates issued more than 1 year ago may need renewal. EWS certificate must be for the financial year 2025–26.

Common JEE Main Registration Mistakes (And How to Avoid Them)

Every year, thousands of candidates make avoidable mistakes during registration that can lead to form rejection, incorrect seat allotment, or even disqualification. Read each carefully.

HighWrong category selection

Double-check your category certificate before selecting. General-OBC-SC-ST-EWS-PwD selection cannot be changed after final submission. Wrong category = wrong seat eligibility during counselling.

HighPhoto uploaded incorrectly (full body, dark background, etc.)

Use a passport-sized photo with white background. Face must cover 75-85% of frame. File must be 10KB–200KB JPEG. A rejected photo causes form rejection at verification.

CriticalTypo in name, date of birth, or Aadhaar number

Cross-check every field against your Class 10 marksheet (name) and Aadhaar card (DOB, Aadhaar number). Even a single character mismatch can cause your candidature to be cancelled.

MediumSelecting wrong exam paper (Paper 1 vs Paper 2)

Paper 1 = B.Tech/B.E. (Physics, Chemistry, Maths). Paper 2A = B.Arch. Paper 2B = B.Planning. If you want B.Tech, select Paper 1. You can select both Paper 1 and Paper 2 by paying separate fees.

CriticalNot completing payment after form fill

Form is only considered submitted AFTER successful fee payment. Many students fill the form but forget to pay. Check your registered email for a confirmation. If no confirmation received within 24 hours, the payment likely failed.

MediumSelecting wrong exam center city

Choose exam centers close to your home — NTA assigns specific centers within the city you chose. You cannot change the city after submission. Choose 3–4 city preferences in order of convenience.

JEE Main Paper 2 (B.Arch / B.Planning) — 2026

JEE Main has two papers. Paper 1 is for B.Tech/B.E. Most students only appear for Paper 1. Paper 2 is only relevant if you want B.Arch or B.Planning admissions.

Who should apply for Paper 2?
Students who want admission to B.Arch (Bachelor of Architecture) or B.Planning programs at NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs through JEE Main. Paper 2 is separate from Paper 1 (B.Tech).
Paper 2A vs Paper 2B
Paper 2A is for B.Arch — includes Mathematics, Aptitude Test, and Drawing. Paper 2B is for B.Planning — includes Mathematics, Aptitude Test, and Planning-based questions. No drawing for Paper 2B.
Additional fee for Paper 2
If you want to appear for both Paper 1 (B.Tech) AND Paper 2 (B.Arch/B.Planning), you must pay separate fees for each paper during registration.
Eligibility for B.Arch
For B.Arch specifically: you also need 50% in Mathematics in Class 12 separately from the overall 75% requirement. B.Arch programs also conduct separate aptitude tests at institute level.
